The Benefits of Botox

January 10, 2019 | Kinectiv

Botox is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States and has been since the 1990s. Millions of patients have realized the incredible benefits of this versatile procedure, from smoothing wrinkles to alleviating migraines.

What is Botox?

Wrinkles are caused by facial muscles working overtime to create expressions such as frowning and smiling. Botox blocks the nerve electrical impulses to the muscles that fire within the nerves of those muscles. This smoothes wrinkles and works to prevent future wrinkles from forming. While Botox partially blocks nerve synapses to the muscles, it does not alter feeling in the muscle, meaning you’ll still be able to feel the treated area.

Botox comes in a powder form and is diluted with saline to make it injectable. The cosmetic procedure typically takes about 20-50 units of the solution. A harmful dose would take between 2,500 and 3,000 units, making the cosmetic dosage totally safe for patients. The procedure takes about 30 seconds to a couple of minutes and is relatively painless. Results last for 3-4 months but can last up to 6 months.

The Benefits.

The most well-known result of Botox is the decrease in the appearance of wrinkles over time. However, there are other benefits to this popular treatment that many people don’t know of. Here are a few:

1. Migraine Relief

Thousands of people suffer from painful, debilitating headaches known as migraines. Botox is proven to provide relief for patients when injected in areas like the bridge of the nose, the back of the head, neck, and temples and typically requires more units of Botox than many cosmetic uses. Over time, patients have reported decreased migraines as well as decreased use of pain medicine.

2. Sweat Zapper

Hyperhidrosis is the technical term for overactive sweat glands. Many sufferers experience excess sweating in the underarms, feet, and hands. Typically treated with medication, hyperhidrosis can also be treated with Botox, usually requiring up to 100 units. Injections in the affected areas can keep excess sweating at bay for up to six months.

3. Incontinence Cure

For women with overactive bladders, Botox can be a lifesaver. Botox has even proven more effective in treating incontinence than traditional nerve stimulation devices. Just like in the muscles of the face, Botox relaxes the bladder. This allows the muscles the retrain themselves, ultimately leading to relief.
